PAO CHUTIJIRAWONG (b. 2001, Thailand) works in a multidisciplinary fashion utilizing sculpture, video, and new media. Moved by the shift of residences, her practice retraces the matter of human displacement and resilience through retracing of spatial construction and deconstructions as evidence of identity, existence, ownership.

Pao developed the work in relation to the site through found, ubiquitous materials and mark-making on constructed surfaces in built spaces. Her solo exhibition, Resilience(Crossley Gallery, FL) was a result of on-site research in Hambidge Center addressing nature’s remembrance of the Trail of Tears in North Georgia Mountains. At Yale Norfolk School of Art, her kitchen towel paper-mache of the interior space was an attempt to retrace the anonymous memory constructed by the hands of the caretaker and construction workers. Previously based in Sarasota, Florida, her project addressed the erasure of homes in the face of rapid town development by retracing architectural constructions from Google maps and physical construction sites. Through her practice, she sought to facilitate the sensorial and spatial experience from gathered material both software and hardware in situ to explore the relationship between memory and sovereignty.
