Passing a cigarette
on the beach between
two strangers, one
inside her proud black
elegant burka, the other
sits close by in white June
flowering summer dress,
although they come from
foreign perspectives,
different tongues, tastes
and ways to confess—
while the waves crash
hopeful grins behind
them, not thinking
about their supremeimmortal
beings, these two Goddesses
conversing against the railing,
when one offers the other
a glimmering kind light,
their distance dissolves—
asthe kindling
of compassion begins…
